Doing our homework, we thought about 2015 and all of its new promises for the market. The beginning of the period is always a great time to align with the upcoming rage on mobile technologies and here we present our five picks that are going to be trends in this year:
The Internet of Things (IoT) is a very promising concept, which has been backed up by a number of companies for some time now. It is basically connecting utility appliances and other objects from our usual environment to devices through the Internet. For instance, Apple has already outlined a framework for home automation, the HomeKit, which connects a number of smart devices to the iPhone and leverages Siri usage, letting the user tell what the devices should do by voice instructions.
Google Glass was the first step towards a battle that will ensue throughtout 2015. Apple Watch is about to hit the shelves and more smartphone-linked devices are on the making process, such as wristbands and bangles. The healthcare sector is looking forward to use the technology to monitor patients and speed up the response to emergencies. Sensors embedded on clothing and activity-trackers will also be connected to mobile applications, providing a better experience to users.
With the increase on mobile usage and IoT, — outspacing desktops and computers — security management for these different systems is required. The issues with cloud data and the growing need of trust and authentication turned the attention to data protection. More mobile resources are also needed to defend the devices (i.e., end-to-end encrypting and touch ID technology).
Even with the majority of those systems being available only in the US, mobile payment is probably expanding to the rest of the world, since its substantial success. PayPal processed US$46 billion in the last year, which made Apple Pay and Google Wallet start the fight for the second place.
Facebook saw the opportunity first, forcing its user to download its Messenger application, apart from the app core, but still keeping them connected to each other. More separate apps are also part of major players’ app constellations like Snapcash, from Snapchat; Paper and Slingshot, from Facebook; Swarm, from Foursquare; and Google’s Drive, Docs and Sheets. This movement aims to re-engage their base users even more, creating a seamless experience between applications that complement themselves. Another trend related to that it’s called deep linking. It creates a link connection between your Internet browser and an application. It already happens with torrent softwares and their magnet links, on PCs, but now ported to mobile apps.
Despite all of those trends, it’s soon to tell which indications will really stand out throughout 2015, but one thing is clear: it is going to be an incredible year for mobile and tech sectors!
