In the end, it drove a competition between companies and stimulated the development of new green technologies. This is the scenario where the Green IT concept popped out.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<h1><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Green IT<\/span><\/h1>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Created by technology companies, Green IT has the purpose of combining available resources with sustainability politics and economic performance within the organizations, seeking to generate benefits to the environment and to the companies as well. So, Green IT is all about reducing waste and increasing the efficiency of the processes and events related to computer&#8217;s operations. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To understand the environmental impacts of IT, it is necessary to adopt a holistic approach that addresses the problems along the following four complementary paths:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6150 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/ckl-website-static.s3.amazonaws.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/Screen-Shot-2018-12-21-at-16.37.58.png\" alt=\"Green IT paths\" width=\"479\" height=\"328\"><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Green use: &#8220;Reduce the energy consumption of computers and other information systems and use them in an environmentally sound manner.&#8221;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Green disposal: &#8220;Refurbish and reuse old computers and properly recycle unwanted computers and other electronic equipment.&#8221;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Green design: &#8220;Design energy efficient and environmentally sound components, computers, servers, and cooling equipment.&#8221;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Green manufacturing: &#8220;Manufacture electronic components, computers, and other associated subsystems with minimal or no impact on the environment.&#8221; <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Some of its environment and financial benefits are<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: reduction of gas emissions, optimization of activities, gathering insights of reutilization and recycling in the operations, help in conserving energy and also aid in the reduction of losses, decreasing operational expenses.<\/span><\/p>\n<h1><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Triple Bottom Line<\/span><\/h1>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To add to the Green IT concept, there&#8217;s also the Triple Bottom Line concept. Suitable to any company, it consists in how enterprises conduct their business in a <\/span><b>profitable way<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, generating benefits to the <\/span><b>people<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> involved in it and the society, causing as little harm and impact as possible to the <\/span><b>environment<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, as shown in the picture below.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>i<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6151 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/ckl-website-static.s3.amazonaws.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/Screen-Shot-2018-12-21-at-16.38.13.png\" alt=\"Sustainability graphic\" width=\"511\" height=\"390\"><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Profit: marked by reduction of costs, market opportunity\/competitive advantage.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">People: more and more people are choosing to consume services and products from companies that invest in environmental responsibility.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Planet: green practices in IT help to reduce energy use, decreasing gas emissions and ambient pollution.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After all this theoretical discussion, what about putting it to work? Here are some practices that your IT company can do to make our environment a better place:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Better functioning of Softwares<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: Making computer programs more efficient, consuming less energy, optimizing its processing and disabling functions or devices when they&#8217;re not being used. &nbsp;Also, managing the energy consumption according to the equipment usage.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When buying new equipments:<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It\u2019s important to elaborate a clear company policy about the acquisition of equipments that have less consumption of energy and, if possible, to buy one that uses recycled and non-polluting materials.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Computers, Printing machines<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: When possible, opt for devices with more efficient computational processes. To the printers, it is always a good call to reduce printings, doing it only when necessary, preferably using recycled paper, and also remanufacturing the cartridges.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Modernization of Datacenters<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: Using virtualized, smaller data centers and with a better refrigeration, that don&#8217;t only save energy, but also reduce the need of a bigger infrastructure in order to deal with the growing demand of more energy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Recycling Devices: <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Some equipments may not attend to a certain profile of use anymore, but they can be useful to other people or institutions who seek to stimulate the digital inclusion.
